What You Can Expect In Therapy
The first phase involves meeting with both the teen and the parents/guardians to understand concerns, set clear goals and review the limits of confidentiality. The primary goal is establishing a secure, trusting therapeutic relationship with the adolescent.
Sessions are tailored to the teen’s style, often involving a mix of conversation and active work (e.g., using art, metaphors or role-playing) to explore thoughts and feelings. We continuously check in with the teen to ensure the pace and direction of the work feels helpful.
As therapy progresses, parents can expect to see improved communication, reduced emotional volatility and better stress management at home and school. The teen will experience a greater sense of confidence and an increased capacity to navigate the social and emotional demands of their world. Therapy concludes when the teen and family feel they have met their goals and the teen possesses the confidence and skills to handle future challenge autonomously.
